DIY Friday

Hey Y'all! So its time to add a segment to the blog...Im calling it DIY Friday, and its going to be awesome! I love being crafty, so i thought why not share my crafts with you and teach you how to do it?

Our first craft is a Vintage Suitcase Refurb:

All you need:
-An old hard shell suitcase! I got mine at a thrift store/flea market for $10
-Some scissors
-Some fabric...i bought 2 yards of this awesome yellow chevron but for this project alone you wont need more than 1 yard!
-Modge podge
-Sponge brush
-Exacto knife (not pictured)
Seriously thats it...its so easy!

Here is how it is done!

Step 1: Lay your fabric upside down on top of your suitcase, or if you are timid like me start with the bottom! Trace the edge around with a pen. Then cut about 1/4 inch more than the edge...the more the merrier you can always take away but adding is not as easy!

Step 2: Iron your piece of fabric to get all the wrinkles out!

Step 3: Using your sponge brush apply a thin layer of modge podge to the suitcase. Applying too much you will be able to see it on the other side so make sure its even, mine wasn't and it has a streak in it now!  The easiest way to do it is by placing the fabric where you want it centered and then fold back 1/2 apply glue then gently press it out. Then do the same for the other half!

Step 4: You will now have the fabric stuck to the top with frayed edges on the outside. This is the most complicated step. Apply more modge podge to the edge and using your exacto knife press the fabric into the crease until it has all disappeared! You may need to trim some of the excess fabric off before so it will fit in the seam!
Step 6: Repeat on the other side!

Step 7: Admire how easy it was to upgrade your suitcase!

I mean seriously how awesome is this!!!
Next week I will take on the nasty interior!
