Lifestyle Newborn Session in Laurens, SC | Baby Thomas
There is a specific kind of chaos that lives in a house full of boys. It is loud and physical and completely uncontainable, and it is also, somehow, the most tender thing you will ever witness.
Baby Thomas came home to exactly that.
His family welcomed me into their Laurens, SC home on a morning that felt like the South in the best possible way β bright light pouring through big windows, a beautiful home that was clearly lived in and loved, and brothers. So many brothers. All of them in coordinating shades of light blue, all of them completely beside themselves about the smallest person in the room.
This is what lifestyle newborn photography in Laurens, SC looks like. And I am so glad I got to be there.
The All-Boy Energy Is Everything
I want to be honest with you: sessions with multiple kids, especially multiple boys, can go a hundred different directions. There is always an element of unpredictability. Someone is going to want to touch the baby approximately one second after you told them not to. Someone is going to barrel roll off the couch. Someone is going to decide, mid-session, that they are actually done.
And every single bit of that is exactly what you want documented.
Thomas's brothers had that big-kid energy that only boys in a pile on a couch together can produce β elbows everywhere, someone always leaning a little too far, the constant negotiation of who gets to hold the baby next. But underneath all of it was this unmistakable current of gentleness. These boys loved their brother already. You could see it in the way they leaned in close, the way they looked at him, the way they quieted down just slightly when they were holding him.
If you are expecting a baby and you have older kids at home, please do not skip the sibling moments in your newborn session. The wildness is the memory. The tenderness underneath the wildness is the thing you will cry over someday.
A Laurens Home That Photographed Like a Dream
The home was everything. Cream and white tones throughout, beautiful natural light, a stunning staircase that I put to work, and a living room that fit this entire crew comfortably β which, if you know anything about fitting a family of six onto one couch, is saying something.
The color palette the family chose was so well thought out. Dad in light blue. Mom in white. All the brothers coordinating in shades of soft blue. Thomas tucked into the same palette, brand new and already one of them. The whole thing looked like it was designed to be photographed, but it also just looked like them. That is the goal.
We worked through the living room, the staircase landing, and a few quieter spots where mom and dad got some just-the-four-of-them moments with Thomas that felt a little bit slower and softer in the middle of all that beautiful boy chaos.
What Lifestyle Newborn Sessions Look Like for Big Families
One of the questions I get most from families with multiple kids is whether a lifestyle session can actually work with a lot of moving pieces. The answer is yes β and honestly, big families are some of my favorite sessions to shoot.
Here is why it works:
The kids set the pace. I am not trying to hold anyone still or force anyone into a pose. We move through the space, we follow the energy, and we catch the moments as they happen. That is a lot easier with kids than a rigid studio setup where everyone has to be in exactly the right spot.
The chaos creates variety. Wide shots of the whole family, close-ups of the baby, individual brother moments, parents tucked in a corner with the newborn while the big kids pile together β big families give you a natural range of images that tells a full story.
Home is where everyone is already comfortable. No loading everyone in the car, no keeping kids entertained in a waiting room, no meltdowns in the parking lot. They are already home. They warm up fast because they never had to warm up to the space in the first place.
If you have a big family and you have been hesitant to book a newborn session because you cannot imagine wrangling everyone β reach out. I promise it is less stressful than you think, and the images will be worth every chaotic, beautiful second.
The Moments That Made Thomas's Session
Every session earns a few images that live in a different category from the rest. Thomas's had several.
All the brothers crowded onto the couch together, Thomas in the middle, everyone leaning in at once β the sheer volume of love in that frame is almost hard to look at directly.
Mom on the staircase landing with Thomas, the light coming down soft and even, the rest of the house quiet behind her for just a minute.
Dad holding Thomas with that particular stillness that dads get when they are holding a brand new baby and they think nobody is watching.
The brothers taking turns β one at a time, so serious, holding him so carefully, then immediately going back to climbing on each other.
And then all of them together, this whole big Southern family of six, in their beautiful Laurens home, figuring out what they looked like now.
