First Day of School Jitters
Today was the first day of school here and its almost been 2 weeks since I have lived here... 2 weeks doesn't sound like a long time but its seriously feels like I have been here so long! Since I have been here twice before on short term teams I could pretend like I was a pro...until now, because now I'm not going home, now I actually live here!
In the past 14 days:
I have felt adventurous and brave and scared at times.
I have been the awkward new kid who doesn't know what in the world is going on and doesn't always fit in with the veterans.
I have gotten lost in a taxi 3 times and had to pay ridiculous fare because of it.
I have learned like 12 words of Thai...mostly how to get places, food to order and simple greetings.
I have eaten only 1 spicy meal where my mouth was on fire afterward...for awhile!
I have sweated...A LOT! Its so humid here!
I have opened a bank account and gotten a Thai phone number!
The sewer/dirty water/trash smells still make me gag!
I have meet so many new people and made new friends!
I have gotten a least one mosquito bite a day!
I took a trip to Ikea and am working on making my apartment more homey!
I have celebrated the Queen's birthday, from a rooftop pool overlooking 10 different firework shows.
I have ridden the sky train to Bangkok and eaten a fancy city meal.
There is so much more but most importantly...today I met a million Thai Kids, ok just 400. (and butchered every single one of their names!)
I still have so much to learn and so many new things to do and honestly, I still can't believe I live here! I am excited to begin building deeper relationships and step outside my comfort zone, even more than I already have.
There is not much to this post, besides letting you all know that I am alive and loving life in Thailand!
Now, enjoy a few of my fave photos from the first day of school!
Mrs. Megan is the best teacher...I still have moments of pure thankfulness that her and Josh are here too!
